When we think of constellations, we often turn our heads towards the night sky and picture images that the stars create for our visual pleasure. In fact, the constellations that we view in the clear night skies are totally imaginary phenomena that some poets, farmers, and astronomers have made up over the past thousands of years!
우리가 별자리를 생각할 때는 별들이 우리들의 시각적 즐거움을 위해 만들어내는 밤하늘과 그림 이미지를 향해서 고개를 종종 돌리곤 한다. 사실, 우리가 맑은 밤하늘에서 보는 별자리는 몇몇 시인, 농부, 천문학자들이 지난 수천년을 두고 만들어낸 총체적 상상의 현상이다.
One reason for these phenomenal categorizations is that constellations help us tell which stars are which, and for some farmers been used to determine the best times of the year for planting and harvesting their rewards. They are used as mnemonics, or memory aids. Constellations became a strong part of many cultures. Maybe, the mystery of the night sky made people want to tell stories about the constellations.
이러한 현상적인 구획화의 이유는 별자리가 어떤 별을 명명하는데 도움을 주고, 어떤 농부들에게는 농작물을 심고 추수하는 년중 최적의 시기를 결정하는데 이용된다는 것이다. 그것들은 기억술이나 기억 보조물로 이용되고 있다. 별자리는 많은 문화의 강점이 되었다. 아마도 밤하늘의 신비가 사람들로 하여금 별자리에 대한 이야기를 하기를 원하리라.
For the past few years, the Korean government has been aggressively casting the star qualities of its own culture and trying to introduce them to the international community. The momentum of the K pop music scene has delivered a wide net over the rest of the world and created an avenue for other aspects of Korean culture to follow its lead. However, from a foreigner’s perspective it appears to be coming in dribs and drabs, bits and pieces, fragmented at best.
지난 몇 년 동안 한국정부는 나름의 문화의 스타의 자질을 공격적으로 던져왔으며, 국제사회에 그것들을 소개하고자 노력하였다. 케이 팝 음악의 계기는 세계 다른 나라에 넓은 망을 구축하였으며 다른 한국문화들이 그 선두를 따라오도록 길을 만들어 주었다. 그러나 외국인의 관점에서 보면 기껏해야 작은 방울과 작은 조각으로 파편화되어서 오는 것 같다.
If the Korean government wants to grab the attention of the world stage, then the Korean story needs to constellate in order to become more cohesive and coherent. Let’s take a page from our grammar lessons, "cohesion elevates a random collection of sentences to the status of a text, and in the process imparts meaning, insight and purpose to those sentences. Without cohesion, the text can hardly be said to exist at all, for cohesion provides the textual means for initiating comprehension or sense." In addition, "Robert de Beaugrande and Wolfgang Dressler describe coherence as a "continuity of senses" and "mutual access and relevance within a configuration of concepts and relations"
만약에 한국정부가 세계무대의 관심을 움켜잡기 원한다면 한국적 이야기가 더욱 응집력 있고 일관되게 만들도록 별자리로 만들 필요가 있다. 문법 공부에서 한 장을 인용해보자. “응집은 임의적인 문장의 모음을 텍스트의 수준으로 향상 시킨다. 그 과정에서 그 문장들에게 의미, 통찰력 그리고 목적을 부여한다. 응집이 없으면 텍스트는 거의 존재할 수 없다. 왜냐하면 응집이 이해나 의미를 선도하는데 텍스트적 수단을 제공하기 때문이다.” 덧붙여서 로버트 드 보그랑드와 울프강 드레슬러는 일관성을 “의미의 연속성”과 “개념과 관계의 형태 안에서 상호적 접근과 상관”으로 정의한다.
Generally speaking, people rely on their schemata or building blocks of cognition, in order to relate to other cultures. The notion of creating a Constellation of Korean Culture would connect the stars of every aspect from Korea’s rich history, for example food, music, fashion, art, and language to name a few. In addition, the unique Constellation of Korean Culture would bring the official organizations of government and business to work in unison, rather than compete amongst themselves for a piece of the world’s sky.
일반적으로 말해서 다른 문화 관련을 짓기 위해서 인지구조나 인지의 블록에 의존한다. 한국문화의 별자리를 만든다는 개념은 예를 들어 음식, 음악, 패션, 미술 이름을 짓는 언어 등의 한국의 풍부한 역사로부터 모든 것들의 별자리를 연결시키는 것이다. 또한 한국문화의 독특한 별자리는 세계의 하늘에서 서로 경쟁하기 보다는 정부와 기업이 공식적으로 조직화하도록 할 것이다.
They could invest their monetary efforts in a more efficient structure of cooperation rather than fragmented pieces of culture they so desperately want to control. So let’s help the international community visualize and connect the stars of Korean culture. So when they turn their eyes to the world’s sky they will see the Constellation of Korean Culture!
그들은 그토록 조절하기 원하는 파편화된 문화보다는 더 효율적인 구조의 협력 속에서 재정적인 노력을 투자할 수 있으리라. 그래서 국제사회가 한국문화의 별자리를 시각화하고 연결하도록 돕자. 또한 그들의 세계의 하늘에 눈을 돌릴 때 한국문화의 별자리를 볼 수 있을 것이다.
