One of the most beautiful things I love about Korea, especially the Pocheon area, is the autumn season. Much like Canada, the mountains and valleys come alive during this time of year. Nature smiles upon us with an extraordinary mosaic of colors and landscapes that envelops our very souls. How fitting a spectacle it is after giving thanks during the past Chuseok holiday. Not only do we reap the benefits of a healthy harvest, but are able to smell, see and touch the bountiful beauty that Mother Nature has so kindly given us to enjoy.
In our busy lives we miss so many signs that could relieve the stress we encounter as we try to survive in the urban jungle and our fast-paced lifestyles. We should learn how to re-connect with nature so we can bring some semblance of order back into our lives. To go hiking and have our senses swim in a sea of color is something all of us should be able to appreciate; yet often take for granted. Where else on earth can you experience the air¡¯s refreshing breath, the solitude of your thoughts and shun the complexities of your lives, but the mountains.
So too, autumn is a time to revisit and contemplate our goals as the year comes to an end. As well, we sprint through life and never seem to grasp the answers to the many questions we have. The vibrant dynamism of the season gives way to the positive energy mirrored by nature¡¯s surroundings, if we would only allow it to. Take time with a friend, the family or someone near and dear to your heart and venture into the wild landscape that we, here in Korea, are so blessed to be a part of. This is the autumn season in all of its glory. Learn how to reconnect with nature and she may allude to the pieces of the puzzle that you have been missing in your life. If nothing else, at least you¡¯ll get some great exercise!
