For many ex-pats the year ending 2011 and the New Year of 2012 brings to mind reflections of the past year and anticipation to the fore front. We want to ascribe to positive aspects of our lives and set a future path that will allow us the freedom to become a positive force in society. 무료함을 달래러 한국을 찾는 많은 서양인들에게 저무는 2011년과 신년 2012년은 지난 해에 대한 반추와 앞으로 올 것들에 대한 기대를 하게 된다. 우리들은 자신들의 삶에 대해 긍정적으로 돌리고 사회에서 긍정적인 힘이 될 자유를 허락해줄 미래의 길을 놓기를 원한다.
Living in the Pocheon area for many years, I found the best way to achieve this freedom is to wander throughout the area’s many winter wonder lands. Yes, summer and fall are a great time to experience the natural beauty of Sanjeong Lake or the Korea National Arboretum, but winter brings a calm that these two seasons cannot offer. 여러 해 동안 포천 지역에 살면서 이 자유를 획득할 최선의 길이 겨울의 경이로운 곳들을 찾아다니는 것이라는 것을 알았다. 그렇다, 여름과 가을은 산정호수나 한국 국립 수목원의 자연미를 체험할 최적기이지만, 겨울은 이 두 계절이 제공할 수 없는 정적을 가져다준다.
With the winter air, crisp and clean, I wandered around The Garden of Morning Calm, located near Gapyeong-gun, the other day. The sun was bright and there was a silent blanket of snow that had been laid the night before. I could only hear the silence of the valley’s breath and the odd crackling of branches bending in the subtle winds, but no machines, no human angst, and no mind altering neon lights; there was only Mother Nature and the peaceful mind she gave me. 나는 언젠가 가평군에 위치한 “조용한 아침의 정원”을 서늘하고 깨끗한 겨울 공기를 마시며 산책하였다. 태양은 화창하고 전날 밤 쌓인 조용한 담요 같은 눈이 있었다. 필자는 계곡의 호흡의 침묵소리와 잔바람에 굽은 나뭇가지가 기묘하게 찢어지는 소리가 들릴 뿐, 어떤 기계도, 인간적 고뇌도, 마음을 흩어지게 하는 네온 빛도 없었으며, 오직 모성적 자연이 나에게 평화로운 마음을 전해줄 뿐이었다.
For a different perspective, I plan to come back in March for the colorful Festival of Lights. My next venture was to Ildong-myeon and the many hot springs that grace the surrounding area. There is something to be said about lying naked in an outdoor pool of naturally heated spring water while feeling the cold crisp winter air; talk about feeling refreshed! 필자는 또 다른 관점에서 다채로운 빛의 축제를 위해 삼월에 돌아올 작정이다. 필자의 다음 시도는 일동면과 주위 지역에 혜택을 주는 많은 온천들이다. 차가운 겨울 대기를 느끼면서 천연 온천물의 노천탕에 벌거벗고 누워 상쾌함을 느끼는 것에 대해서 얘기할 것이 있다.
To top off the beautiful day I travelled to Baesangmyeon Brewery. What better way to finish the day than to nurture a few glasses of Korea’s history. You’ll be amazed at the variety of wines you can sample, some that can only be purchased at the brewery. So as the New Year looms, take advantage of the winter season and wander into the wonderful world that you can freely become a part of! 아름다운 날에 배상면 주가에 여행한 적 있다. 한국 역사가 만든 몇 잔 술로 목을 축이면서 하루를 마감하는 것보다 더 좋은 게 있겠는가. 당신이 표집할 수 있는 다양한 술에 놀랄 것이며 어떤 것들은 이 주가에서만 살 수 있다. 새해가 다가오면서 겨울철을 이용하여 그대들이 자유롭게 일부분이 될 수 있는 놀라운 세계 속으로 소요하라!
